One of the keys to getting fit and staying fit is making sure your kitchen is filled with clean foods. Not only does this keep us on track, it soon becomes a life changing lifestyle. Whether we are craving a late night snack or looking to prep meals for the weeks to come, what we hold in our kitchen will have a huge effect on how we eat. Getting fit starts from the inside so eating a diet filled with real, whole foods is imperative, it’s the staple of being truly healthy.

If you’re wondering what foods you need to keep your kitchen fit, this food list will come in handy! You don’t have to have all of these foods in your fit kitchen at once, but a few from each group will help keep cravings at bay and results on the rise!

Lean protein: Repairs muscle tissue, promotes fat loss, curbs cravings and promotes lean muscle tissue. Some good sources include fish (salmon, tilapia, cod etc.) ground turkey, free range chicken, sirloin or lean ground beef, and protein powders. For vegetarians, quinoa is a great protein substitute.

Good fats: Promotes healthy skin, fights heart disease, supports joint health. Some good sources include avocados, nuts, seeds (sesame, pumpkin, sunflower, chia, flax), hummus, oils (olive, grape seed, coconut) salmon, nut butters (almond/peanut butters).

Good carbohydrates: Slow digesting, good fiber content, sustained energy for workouts. Some good sources include sweet potato, steel cut oats, Ezekiel bread, brown rice, quinoa, beans.

Natural Sugars: Fruit is an instant energy source. They contain fiber, which helps slows down the digestion process and prevents insulin spikes that can lead to fat storage. A great time to eat fruit is post workout paired with a protein for optimum protein absorption into muscle cells. Some good sources include berries (black, blue, strawberries), apples, oranges etc.

Vegetables:Always have plenty of veggies in your kitchen. The more colors, the better! Veggies are filled with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and they also aid in weight loss due to their fiber content which helps us to feel fuller longer. Veggies are known to be what’s considered a “free food” meaning you just can’t have enough!

There is a saying that states “you are what you eat” If that’s the case, having a fit kitchen will make you lean, healthy and powerful!
