A clean take on chocolate chip cookies that are just as nutritious as they are delicious!

Chocolate chip cookies are an all-time favorite when it comes to sweet treats! If you are an individual who tries to stick to a clean diet, you may only limit yourself to one cookie when the occasion arises. Fortunately, this recipe is not only a clean version for chocolate chip cookies; it’s also a nutritious one! With ingredients like coconut, bananas and flax seed the nutrient content is rich and beneficial to our bodies allowing the indulgence of chocolate chip cookies much more often.

 

Choosing dark chocolate chips has a host of health benefits! Made from the seed of the cocoa tree, it is one of the best sources of antioxidants on the planet. Studies show that dark chocolate can improve health and lower the risk of heart disease. Quality dark chocolate is rich in fiber, iron, magnesium, copper, manganese and a few other minerals! Choosing that form of chocolate over milk chocolate and others that has added refined sugars will not give you these health benefits. For those who don’t like the bitter taste that dark chocolate can give off, the sweetness from the bananas in this recipe gives off a sweet, savoury taste! Especially with the holidays coming up, this desert is a dish that you can make to help you stick to clean eating, yet feel like you are having a treat!

Ingredients:
3 bananas
1 cup oats
2 tbsp flax seed
1/2 cup coconut flakes
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips

Directions:
In a medium sized bowl, mash 3 bananas then add the rest of the ingredients listed above. Mix well. Cover an 8×8 baking pan with tin foil. Spray with coconut non-stick spray. Place dough on baking pan, then flatten out dough with a spatula to ensure a flat level of dough. Preheat oven to 350. Bake for 15 minutes. You may need to cook for 17 minutes depending on oven, but check at 15 minute mark.

You can make into cookie shapes and cook for same amount of time and add in a protein power to up the protein content.
